Non-slip clothes hangers

Who doesn't know the frustration of clothes slipping off hangers? Fortunately, many clothing manufacturers include loops in their garments, but these are often removed because they can be irritating or, if not careful, they protrude from the clothing. Without loops, it's only a matter of time before a garment slips off the hanger. This is annoying, but there are several solutions to prevent it. The main reason clothes slip off hangers is that the shoulder parts of the hangers are very smooth. This can be the case for metal, plastic, and wooden hangers alike. The solution lies in making the shoulder part of the hanger less slippery by applying an anti-slip coating or using so-called 'Non slips'. We will discuss the different solutions below.

Anti-slip Coating

Because the shoulder part of the hanger is smooth, the fabric of the clothing is not held in place and slides off. This part can be coated with a special anti-slip layer. This textured layer ensures that the clothing stays securely on the hanger. There are several types of anti-slip coatings available.

Sprayed Coating

A sprayed anti-slip coating is a thin, glue-like layer that is applied to the surface using a spray. This layer is thin and transparent, so it does not alter the appearance of the hanger. The only difference is that the treated surface has a matte finish. This method is mainly used for plastic hangers.

Non slips

A second method to increase friction is to use so-called 'Non slips'. These are sturdy silicone strips with two holes on the outer sides. These holes allow the strip to be slid over the ends of a hanger, making the ends of the hanger grippy and ensuring that clothing stays securely on it. The strips are available in various colors such as white and black and are mainly used with wooden hangers.

DIY Anti-slip

The last method is for DIY enthusiasts. This method is less durable than the previous ones. All you need is a low-temperature glue gun and glue sticks. The shoulder parts can be coated with a layer of glue in an 'S' motion. The textured glue ensures that the garments stay securely on the hanger without slipping off.
 

Metal Hangers

For metal hangers, a different anti-slip method is used. Because metal hangers often have narrow shoulder parts, the above methods cannot always be applied. Therefore, metal hangers are often coated with a textured plastic layer. The hanger is dipped into a liquid bath of plastic, which coats the submerged parts with a rubber-like plastic layer, providing an anti-slip function. A commonly used hanger treated this way is the trouser hanger, where the part where the pants or trousers hang is coated with the plastic layer, keeping the garments securely on the hanger without slipping off.
